BASKING RIDGE, NJ – Candidates for the Bernards Township Board of Education will answer questions at a public forum from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the Performing Arts Center at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge.
Six candidates are vying for three three-year seats. Those candidates incumbent Guddia “Herpreet” Singh, Nimish Amin, Csilla Csipak, Keith Molinari, Erica Blackman and Janice Corrado.
Incumbent Suzanne Schafer-Skalski, Deborah E. Penner Smith and Lawrence Rascio are vying to fill one one-year unexpired term.
The event is organized by the League of Women Voters together with members of the student Ridge High School Empowerment for Political Participation.
League member Ann Armstrong, who is not a resident of Bernards Township, will be the moderator.
Amin, Csipak, Molinari and Rascio are running as a team under the banner of “For Bernards Children.”
Schafer-Skalski, Singh, Blackman and Corrado have joined together with the ballot slogan “Education For All.”
Penner Smith has filed with the ballot slogan “Special Education Teacher.”
Candidates for the Bernards Township Board of Education will give both opening and closing statements, which should leave about 60 minutes for questions from the audience. Each candidate will have the opportunity to answer questions and the opportunity for a rebuttal. No remarks of a personal or abusive nature will be permitted.
The event will be videotaped and posted online to allow residents who are unable to attend to view the event. It will be available on the REPP website (https://sites.google.com/view/repp/) and the League of Women Voters’ website (www.lwvnj.org).
All questions will be screened to avoid duplication and vetted to ensure they relate to the office and do not contain personal attacks. The LWV moderator will read the questions to the candidates and the audience.
The League encourages all registered voters to vote in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 18. The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot by mail is Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Early voting starts Oct. 29 and lasts until Nov. 6.
