I want to share with you a conversation I had with a client yesterday. I started working with this family ten years ago – I helped them buy their first home, and when they needed more space I marketed that home for them and helped them buy their current home. Three transactions in ten years; I am honored that they have trusted me with such important financial and lifestyle decisions. A few weeks ago she called me and asked to see a house. The last time she did that we were under contract in what seemed to be only a matter minutes! This time it’s not happening as quickly, and we’ve been out to see more than a few homes – they are looking for a little more space in a better location – but they don’t NEED to move.
She told me last night that she feels badly that she might be wasting my time. I told her absolutely not to feel that way – I recognize that as a professional, licensed Realtor I have easy access to and a really good understanding of market data – information that you as a consumer need but don’t always have. Sure, there’s Zillow and Trulia and Realtor.com and a whole host of other real estate sites out there. But they are not always accurate, they are not always current and sometimes they are flat out wrong. I am out there all day long, seeing homes, compiling pricing strategies, analyzing the market and building relationships with the other Realtors in the area.
Every time I see my client and her beautiful family I learn something – something about them, something about the market, something about the houses we are looking at. All of that information that makes me a better Realtor.
